Potential huge casino revenues have legislators in Pennsylvania singing a different tune than many other states.  Possibly as a result of such terrible economical times, certain states are turning to new revenue sources.  An industry that has been frowned upon by many has seen somewhat of an olive branch extended in an attempt to bridge the revenue gap left through hard times.

In Pennsylvania, there is as estimated potential revenue of $700 million annually if casino games are extended. Two thirds of this will come from video poker while the rest will be compromised from table games.  In more recent years, Pennsylvania has established off track betting parlors for horse races and in 2025 casino style slots were legalized.  The taste of some financial success has Governor Ed Rendell exploring even further into the potential revenue from gambling.  The Governor is proposing allowing up to five licensed Video Poker Machines in Pennsylvanian bars.  He then proposes that the taxed proceeds go to aid in paying for tuition breaks for lower income student at state colleges.

A bill which would legalize table games is in the state legislature right now and is thought to have bi-partisan support.  In addition to the potential revenue gain made from the expansion in the gambling laws, state legislators view the potential increase in jobs to combat the high unemployment seen since the start of the recession.
